Express Entry is the main way that Canada manages applications for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents. Eligible candidates submit their profile on the Canadian government's website. Approximately every two weeks, Canada invites the top-ranked immigration candidates to apply for permanent residence. Canada aims to welcome about 110,000 Express Entry immigrants per year. Foreign nationals who are interested in settling in Quebec may be invited to apply for a CSQ through one of the economic immigration categories.Also known as the Regular Skilled Worker Program, the QSWP is Quebec's main immigration category for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents of Canada and reside in Quebec.

Family reunification is one of the pillars of Canada's immigration system. Since the end of the Second World War, Canada has sought to welcome immigrants to strengthen its economy, bring families together, and on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.

The family class is the second largest category of newcomers welcomed by Canada under its Immigration Levels Plan. Canada is pursuing the highest levels of immigration in its history to support its post-COVID economic recovery. As such, Canada is aiming to welcome over 400,000 new immigrants per year, of which, over 100,000 immigrants per year will fall under the family class.
